Raphael was born in 1483 in Urbino Italy and ironically died on his birthday April 6th, 1520. Urbino was a city surrounding arts which helped Raphael develop his skills. His father was also a painter for the duke of Urbino and he taught Raphael his skills. At age 11 his father died and Raphael took over his father's workshop. Taking over the workshop he was considered one of the best painters in the town. In 1500 Raphael became the apprentice to the master painter Perugino. The during apprenticeship Raphael developed his own way of painting. Raphael left the apprenticeship when he moved to Florence where he then was influenced by the works of Leonardo da Vinci, Fra Bartolommeo, Michelangelo, and Masaccio.Raphael created a more in-depth and detailed way of painting after studying these painters. In 1508 Raphael moved to Rome to paint in the Vatican by pope Julius the second. In 1514 he was almost done so he hired a crew to help him finish up and so he could work on other projects.in !517 he hired by the pope again to do some architectural work and created the design for a chapel in Sant'eligio degli Orefici. He also designed Rome’s Santa Maria del Popolo Chapel and an area within Saint Peter’s new basilica. Then sadly on his 37th birthday, Raphael mysteriously died while working on his largest painting on canvas, The Transfiguration. His body went to the Pantheon in Rome, Italy
